Physical Therapy

What is Physical Therapy? It is therapy for the preservation, enhancement, or restoration of movement and physical function, impairment or disability that utilizes therapeutic exercise, modalities, education and training. Physical Therapists have 6+ years of schooling and most hold a Doctorate degree. At Therapy Partners, we firmly believe in Manual Physical Therapy. Hands on care has been proven to help with rehabilitation. Here at Therapy Partners, it is an essential part of rehab for most of our patients with a wide variety of injuries.

Post-Operative Rehabilitation

Physical Therapy after an operation is vital to restore motion of joints, muscle strength, and flexibility. We will work with your surgeon following the appropriate protocol for rehabilitation. Communication between our office and the physician will happen at the evaluation, with monthly progress reports, your final visit summary and as needed throughout the course of your care.

Muscle & Joint Pain

A common reason to seek out Physical Therapy, muscle and joint pain can be treated in a variety of ways. As in every course of care, a thorough evaluation will be completed to assess the potential cause(s) of your pain and to help develop a plan to optimize your rehabilitation. Typically, a combination of manual therapy, exercise, stretching, and patient education will be used as well as modalities when needed. These techniques are used to reduce your pain and allow for you to return to your normal activities.

TMJ Treatment

TMJ is pain in the joint of your jawbone. The exact causes of TMJ discomfort is often difficult to determine. Your pain may be due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, arthritis or jaw injury. Some people who have jaw pain also tend to clench or grind their teeth, although many people who grind and clench never develop symptoms. In most cases the pain is temporary and can be relieved with self-managed care. In other cases, a course of physical therapy to reduce pain, evaluate body mechanics and instruction regarding stretching techniques is needed.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is offered in our Belfast location only with Matt Economy, PT, MSPT, COMT. Matt was a member of the committee that brought dry needling to physical therapy in the state of Maine. Dry needling is a safe, minimally-discomforting and often effective technique for patients with certain musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Dry needling is a treatment performed by skilled, trained physical therapists, certified in the procedure. This treatment uses a thin monofilament needle that penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.
